From the Founder

At the heart of our brand is Maria Mandroules— founder of Kioni, mum of four, former Emergency Nurse Practitioner, and your go-to guide for healthier skin. With a background in health sciences from the University of Sydney and the University of Newcastle, Maria has spent years caring for people with medical and skin conditions. But when her youngest son struggled with severe eczema, she faced a challenge that hit close to home.

Frustrated with the heavy reliance on topical steroids, she put her scientific expertise to work, creating gentle yet effective skincare that supports the skin barrier and provides lasting relief. What started as a solution for her family became a passion to help others feel comfortable in their skin. Whether you have had mild sensitivity or you are prone to redness or acne, our products are designed to nourish, protect, and soothe even the most sensitive of skin.

Our Inspiration

Inspired by the Greek Blue Zone Island of Ikaria, Kioni is a tiny village where only about 30 people live, known as ‘the island where people forget to die.’ Here, people take regular naps, enjoy time with friends, fast now and then, follow a Mediterranean diet, walk everywhere, and sip on herbal teas. At Kioni Skin, we believe these same simple, mindful practices are key to nurturing a healthy, balanced skin microbiome. Just like the people of Ikaria, your skin deserves a lifestyle that promotes wellness, balance, and longevity.

The Microbiome

Healthy skin starts from within, and your skin microbiome—through a process called the gut-skin-brain axis—plays a huge role in keeping it balanced. When gut microbes become out of sync (a state called dysbiosis), it can negatively impact skin health, contributing to conditions such as acne, eczema, psoriasis, or even skin cancer.

That’s where science meets skincare. Bio-fermented botanicals, prebiotics, probiotic extracts, and postbiotics can help restore balance, strengthen the skin’s natural defences, and calm inflammation. At Kioni Skin, we harness these powerful innovations to create products that don’t just nourish—they transform. Because skincare should work with your skin, not against it.
